Indications
Vardenafil was approved by the FDA in 2003 for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. Vardenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, that works by increasing blood flow to the penis, which is necessary to harden the penis and allow for an erection that lasts long enough for sexual intercourse.
Contraindications
You should not take Vardenafil if you are currently taking any medications (including occasional use of) that contain nitrates.
Vardenafil should only be used by men who are healthy enough to participate in sexual activity.
If you have penile deformity, penile implants, kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, or if you have ever had an erection lasting longer than four hours – Vardenafil may not be right for you. Consult your physician if any of these conditions apply.
Side Effects/Adverse Reactions
If you develop: hearing or vision changes, painful or prolonged erection, unusual bleeding, chest pain, and loss of consciousness. Seek immediate medical attention.
If you experience any signs of allergic reaction including: tingling of the lips, swelling in the face or throat, or difficulty breathing contact emergency medical services.
Other, more common side effects of Vardenafil use include: dizziness, nausea, runny nose, flushing of the face or neck, headache and mild flu-like symptoms. Let your physician know if you experience any bothersome or unusual side effects.
Dosage
Vardenafil may be taken in dosage of 2.5, 5, 10 or 20mg and can be adjusted to meet your individual needs. Consult your physician if you do not experience the desired effect from your Vardenafil use as you may require a dosage adjustment.
Vardenafil should be taken approximately one hour before expected sexual activity and may be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water to increase absorption.
Vardenafil does not cure erectile dysfunction – so you must take Vardenafil each time you attempt sexual activity to get the full effect.
Fertility is not affected by Vardenafil use and Vardenafil does not protect against pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases. You should continue to use protection as you have in the past.
